Critical Object
Critical Object is a collaboration between two master craftsman: Japanese woodworker Eiji Tsuji and French chef Laurent Gras.
They share a passion for creating beautiful and useful objects, using expert hand craftmanship, exceptional raw materials and premium woods. The result of this unique collaboration are tools designed to solve specific practical kitchen-work challenges using classic carpentry and sophisticated engineering methods.
With a closed-production process that manages everything from design to procuring raw materials to production, Critical Object is able to eliminate intermediary costs and maintain the highest quality at every stage. They also strive for zero emissions in consideration of the environment.
All Critical Object products are conceived and designed by French chef Laurent Gras. Throughout his lauded, decade-long career, he is known not only for creating and pioneering new cooking techniques and dishes, but also for creating unique kitchen and service equipment. He is always looking for ways to improve working conditions, both efficiency and comfort while working. These objects are things he has developed for himself, and that he uses daily in the kitchen.
Gras brought his designs to Japanese woodworker Eiji Tsuji, of Tsuji Wood Technical Co., Ltd, who brought his knowledge of different wood and materials, applying his master craftsmanship to the designs to create these one-of-a-kind pieces.
Critical Object produces tools that are not only efficient to use, well-crafted to last, but are also beautiful objects.

■Double-Level Knife Stand
This double level knife stand is designed to create efficient knife storage and bring comfort while working. Compact, it has two adjustable levels and can accommodate up to 6 knives of various lengths. The knife blades rest over rubber strips to keep them from sliding. The stand sits on non-slip rubber disks to avoid any slipping or movement while working.

Hinoki is a Japanese cypress that has long been used in Japan for its beauty, durability, and delicate, natural fragrance. Hinoki offers natural antibacterial properties and humidity control, and has a light, citrusy scent. We are using the piece from the heart of the tree that has been grown for over 100 years.

Ebony is a tree that grows in Indonesia and Africa. We are using the piece from the heart of the tree. Ebony’s black color, durability, hardness, and ability to create a high polish are why it is used in cabinetwork, knife handles and musical instruments.
■Single-Level Knife Stand
This single-level knife stand is designed to create efficient knife storage and bring comfort while working. This tray is designed to store smaller working utensils. The tray can be placed below the cutting board, in-between the stands, or it can be used to move around the workspace. It can be used in various work environments. The corners of the tray are detailed and reinforced with Japanese Cherry Blossom wood.

Cherry is one of the most prized hardwoods for furniture making. It has a smooth, closed grain pattern.
■Cutting Board Stand
This stand is designed to raise the height of a cutting board and create a very stable working condition. It also keeps the cutting board sanitary. The stand uses non-slip rubber disks on both the top and bottom, protecting the cutting board and the work surface while preventing any slippage or movement while working.
Small items, such as trays, can be placed in the space between the stands beneath the cutting board.
